5 Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Dentures

You were fitted with a set of dentures a couple of years ago, and they’ve greatly improved your life. You can chew pretty much any food you want these days, and you no longer have to worry about being self-conscious of your missing teeth. However, you’re starting to wonder when your new teeth are going to have to be replaced. After all, they weren’t built to last forever. Here are five signs to watch out for that let you know when it’s time to replace your dentures in Worcester.

Fit That’s Too Loose or Too Tight

As a result of tooth loss and aging, the jawbone supporting your dentures naturally begins to change shape. This can cause your dentures to lose the perfect fit they had when you first got them. After a few years, they might become too loose. They may slip around or even fall out when talking or chewing.

Your dentures may also fit too tightly, especially if you go some time without wearing them. If you can’t place them in without pain, then it’s definitely a sign that they should be replaced.

Broken Teeth

As strong as artificial teeth are, they can still crack or chip. Not only can this make it harder to eat, but it can make you self-conscious of your smile. Depending on the extent of the damage, your dentist may simply repair the tooth or decide to replace the whole denture.

Damaged Denture Base

When the denture base is broken, replacement is required immediately. A denture can’t stay in place at all if the base is damaged.

Dirty or Stained Teeth

In some cases, your dentist can simply polish older dentures to make them look like new again. If the dentures have already been through too much, though, it may be time to simply replace them instead.

A Newly Lost Tooth

The purpose of a partial denture is to prevent your remaining teeth from drifting out of place while allowing you to enjoy the benefits of a full smile. If you lose another tooth, the adjacent teeth could still drift, causing alignment issues. Whenever you lose a tooth, you should always ask your dentist about getting a new partial denture.

No matter how well you take care of your dentures, they’ll have to be replaced at some point. Keep an eye out for these five signs and tell your dentist if you experience any of them. They can then get you a brand-new denture that will let you smile brightly for years to come!
