3 Useful Tips for Traveling During Your Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign is one of the most popular orthodontic treatments around, and one of the best perks it offers is its convenience—not only are the trays removable and invisible, but they’re also portable! This means that whether you’re heading out just for a weekend getaway or taking a long, overseas trip, you don’t have to pause or worry about your orthodontic treatment. With a little preparation and know-how, you can keep your aligners clean, cared-for, and effective while you travel. Here’s how.

Tip #1. Bring a Travel-Sized Invisalign Kit

It’s wise to keep a small Invisalign kit in your backpack, carry-on, or purse that includes your Invisalign case, a travel-sized toothbrush, dental floss, cleaning crystals, and extra aligners if you know you’ll need to swap while you’re away from home. Having everything you need in one place makes it easier to stay on top of things and also helps prevent you from losing your aligners. It’s also smart not to put these things in any bags that are being checked—keep them close by for the sake of your smile!

Tip #2. Stick to Your Recommended Wear Time

Traveling also often means new time zones, busy schedules filled with tours and sightseeing, and meals on the go. It’s still important to wear your aligners for the required 22 hours each day, only removing them to brush your teeth or eat (and be sure to pop them back in as soon as you’re done to keep things on track). If you have a smartphone or watch with you, you can set a timer or reminder to help you keep up with this—which isn’t a bad idea to implement at home, either!

Tip #3. Keep Your Aligners Clean While Traveling

It might be harder to keep up with your hygiene while traveling, but you should make this a priority if you wear Invisalign. Rinse your aligners with water every time you remove them, brush and floss after meals, and use cleaning crystals as needed to keep them fresh. Also, refrain from eating or drinking while wearing them, as this can cause damage or staining to them.

Traveling with Invisalign does require a little extra planning, but it shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your trip! By packing the right dental accessories, sticking to your routine, and keeping your aligners safe, you’ll return home with your smile one step closer to the results you’ve been waiting for.
